These vibrant and tasty treats are perfect for any occasion, from backyard barbecues to birthday parties. In this recipe blog post, we will show you how to create these delightful jello shots step by step.

So if you are hosting a themed party, like for springtime, Easter parties, summer brunches, St Patrick’s Day, Mardi Gras, or even Christmas, it’s easy being green!

These green-apple jello shots have a nice sweet flavor with a zippy sour finish, distinctively apple but not a lot of overwhelming fruit flavor.

About The Ingredients

These are fairly quick and easy to make because you don’t have to layer anything. The extra touch comes from a garnish of a sour-apple gummy.

We think it’s fine if you use cheaper vodka for these because they are so strongly flavored with the apple jello and gummies. Save the good vodka for sipping.

About The Garnish

We found these sour apple gummies on Amazon, but they are a bit pricey. If you can find others, feel free to use something else. A sour apple flavor is ideal, but anything with a pucker will do.

Add one gummy to the center of each Jell-O shot when they are halfway set, so at about the 2-hour mark.

That said, you could cut a granny smith apple into thin slices and serve on the side of the cup. The apple slices can’t be covered and stored with the shot, unfortunately, which is why we prefer the extra fun sour flavor and easy serving of the gummy apple candy.

About The Tools

If you don’t have a whisk, a fork will do, but a whisk does help combine the jello powder quickly and easily.

An electric kettle is handy, but you can always boil water in a microwave-safe measuring cup (like PYREX), or boil water on the stove in a pot, then carefully pour or ladle it into your bowl with the gelatin powder.

We found the 2 oz cups with lids online at Walmart.com, but Amazon will have them, too.

Tips For Making Green Apple Jello Shots

  • Use very cold vodka. This will help to prevent the jello from becoming too watery.
  • Use a good quality green apple jello. This will give your jello shots the best flavor.
  • Don’t overmix the jello mixture. This can make the jello tough.
  • Refrigerate the jello shots for at least 3 hours or until they are set. This will help to ensure that the jello is firm and easy to eat. Remember that covered shots may take longer to set.
  • Don’t try to speed up the setting process by putting them in the freezer. It ruins the texture, and they neither freeze nor set.

What’s The Best Way To Eat A Jello Shot?

Here are some ideas for getting that tricky, jiggly cocktail shot out of the cup.

  • The best way to remove jello shots from their containers is to use your finger to gently pull the gelatin away from the sides of the cup and then tip the contents into your mouth.
  • If you’re not up for using your finger for the job, a toothpick, spoon, swizzle stick, or cocktail pick will do the trick.
  • You can also use a very light coating of non-flavored cooking spray before adding the jello to help tip the shot out when you’re ready to eat it. Trying to “knock it back” probably won’t work because the gelatin adheres to the sides of the cup. The spray could affect the flavor, though, and who wants to eat a greased-up chunk of Jello?
  • The squeeze method: This works on a soft-plastic disposable cup, but not if they are too stiff. You may need to use this in combination with another method if it’s not working out. And if the plastic cracks, don’t risk it—just toss the whole thing and grab another.
  • It’s not very cool to use your tongue to get a jelly shot out of a shot glass, but if it’s in a disposable cup like these ones, it may be the easy way to eat a jello shot. The odds are good you’ll look like a cow chasing a Slurpee straw, but it’s a party, after all.

Fun Variations To Add To Your Green Apple Jello Shots

  • Add a splash of lime juice with the cold water for a tart twist.
  • Use ginger ale instead of vodka for a fizzy, nonalcoholic treat.
  • Top with whipped cream and cherry instead of the gummy for an even more decadent dessert cocktail.

No matter how you make them, this Green Apple Jello Shot recipe is sure to be a hit at your next party!

Green Apple Jello Shot Recipe

Yield: 26 Servings
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Chill Time: 4 hours
Total Time: 4 hours 20 minutes

Here’s an easy Green Apple Jello Shot Recipe with a fun, portable sour-apple gummy candy garnish!

Ingredients

  • 6 oz Green Apple Flavored Gelatin (Jell-O)
  • 1 c Vodka, very cold
  • 2 c Water, boiling
  • 1 c Water, cold
  • 1 Green Apple Blast - Shameless Snacks Gummies gummy candy to top each Jell-O shot (Garnish)

Instructions

  1. Set the electric kettle to boil the water.
  2. While the water is boiling, lay out the plastic cups on a sheet pan with the lids set aside.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, add the gelatin mix, then carefully pour the boiling water over the gelatin mix, and stir with a whisk until the mix has completely dissolved.
  4. Add the cold vodka and cold water to the liquid gelatin mixture, stir, and combine with the whisk. Don’t overmix; stir just until combined.
  5. Pour ¼ c of the gelatin mixture into the plastic cups, don’t fill them up all the way because you still have the lids to put on later.
  6. Refrigerate the pan of shots for about 4 hours or until they’ve set. For the garnish: Add a gummy to the center of each Jell-O shot when they are halfway set, so at about the 2-hour mark.
  7. Once they’ve set, put the lids on them, and keep them covered in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Chill the vodka in the fridge or freezer before adding.
  • If there’s not much room in your fridge, place the lids on them all, and then you can stack them to fit. Covered shots may need a longer time to chill until firm-set.
  • They are colorful, so keep these out of reach of children.
